Milford Hospital Appoints Chief Operating Officer

Joseph Pelaccia, President and CEO of Milford Hospital has announced the appointment of Dr. Lloyd Friedman as Chief Operating Officer.  Friedman joined Milford Hospital in 1989 and will continue to serve as Vice President of Medical Affairs and Medical Director of Intensive Care. 

Dr. Friedman has been a key member of the hospital’s senior executive team for 12 years.   As COO and VPMA, Friedman will be responsible for providing clinical oversight in operational decisions as well as providing leadership, knowledge and medical expertise throughout all areas of Milford Hospital.  He will continue to foster management approaches that effectively and efficiently deal with quality of care, length of stay, performance improvement and utilization of services.

Dr. Friedman has a B.A. from Columbia University, and an M.D. from the Yale University School of Medicine.  After his Residency at Oregon Health Sciences University, he completed a Fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Medicine at Yale.  He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine, and is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Yale University School of Medicine.  

Dr. Friedman has studied tuberculosis extensively since 1983, and has authored multiple articles, books and publications on the topic.  He has conducted studies both in the United States and in Russia.  In 2004, he was presented with the David Lyman Russell Award for Meritorious Achievement in Tuberculosis.

Among his professional accomplishments during his tenure at Milford Hospital, Friedman has been credited with implementing their hospitalist service as well as a comprehensive electronic medical record and hospital management system.
